Nothing can prepare you for the responsibility, the sleepless nights, the heart ache, and mostly the joy that is associated with motherhood. Tate was a pretty cranky baby especially for the first year of his life. I felt horrible. He was constantly crying and pretty much miserable. You could tell he didn't feel well. I was like this as a child too, so it came as no surprise that he was following in my footsteps with ear troubles. He's had ear infections constantly! So after this most recent stint we all decided it was time!
We went in on Friday at 6:45 to the surgery center and we got back there pretty fast. The nurse was fantastic! He knew something was up and did NOT want anyone around his ears. They gave him some medicine in an oral syringe, which he took like a champ, and then about 10 minutes later was just as relaxed and laid back as could be! He looked up at me at one point with glazed eyes and kind of giggled and I knew he was good and drugged. When they came to get him to take him back I was anxious he would throw a fit but he just laid in the nurse's arms and away he went.
While he was in surgery my heart was racing and I was nervous, the anxiety had really kicked in. I hated thinking about the pain he might be in or about him waking up and being scared. They took us over to recovery to wait for him and within literally about 20 minutes they brought him back to us. He was still out of it but came around pretty quickly. We had brought him milk and his favorite, "tookies". He did great! The doctor came in and told us it was the worst blockage behind his eardrum that he'd seen. It was like "liquid cement" and it actually clogged their suction! I'm soooo glad we had it done. I wish we would've done it sooner but hindsight is always 20/20. I'm just relieved it's done and am hopeful that he'll feel much better and it will alleviate his ear problems.
Eating his tookies after surgery
giggling and playing about 30/45 minutes after surgery..silly boy
What a champ! I'm so grateful that he did so well and that maybe he'll feel much better now. I'm hopeful that we are on the right path!
